My mother/artist mentor was a wonderful card making artist. She combined color, texture and found objects to make beautiful handmade cards. When I retired, I started my artistic exploration collecting handmade decorative papers and getting inspiration from my mother. We loved sending each other our handmade cards and I always waited for the phone call from her to hear what she thought of the card I had sent.
As my artistic practice expanded to books, boxes and collage, my card making has always been my fall back when I need to get into the studio and just do something. Currently I use my cards as a daily mediation, going into the studio each morning and making one card. Each daily meditation card is a one-of-a-kind work of art using scraps of paper, fiber, fabric and other embellishments which are remnants from the artist’s practice of book, box and paper making as well as 2D mixed media collage. These cards are perfect for sending to the special people in your life or framed to become lovely small works of art.
