Every one loves a box! It is a place to store something special on a desk top or a place to hide something that is used everyday but is not nice to look at on a countertop or mantel.
My fascination with building boxes is twofold. First, I love constructing things with my hands and when I decided that a ceramic studio was out of the question, my love for making small bowls turned into making small boxes. Over the years I have become interested in Asian lacquer ware and determined I could mimic this look with the papers and finishes applied to my boxes.
The boxes are constructed from book board of various thickness, covered with decorative and hand printed papers and then embellished with handles, feet and danglies. I always try and include boxes whenever I show my work and they just don't stay on the shelf very long.

Commissioned custom boxes are available and are often ordered to house a special present (jewelry!), ring box for a wedding ceremony or to house a custom book.
